Solar Panel Pigeon Protection

Pigeons on solar panels

Are pigeons nesting under your solar panels?

Pigeons have always used roofs whether it be for day roosting, nesting on the chimney or using the gutter as a water source for drinking and bathing. With the arrival of the solar panel, we have now literally put a roof over their heads. The solar panels give pigeons warmth, shelter from the elements and protection from predators.
This has created the perfect area for birds to nest and raise their young, so what issues do the birds cause?
Pigeons are not the cleanest birds and living in a flock makes this a real issue, apart from the number of diseases pigeons carry, they bring unwelcome noise, smell and produce large amounts of droppings that block the guttering on your property, this prevents the rainwater from being taken away from the roof causing water and pigeon guano to overflow onto the ground below.

How to stop pigeons nesting under solar panels

100% Success rate with keeping Pigeons out!
ApcUK has developed a system using galvanised welded wire mesh, galvanised metal clips and components.
Using our system we achieve 100% success rate with keeping pigeons out!
Using our system does not affect your warranty, as we do not drill into any part of the array.
Our solar panel proofing experts are happy to talk to the company that installed your panels, for your peace of mind.

Removing pigeon nests from under solar panels

Pigeons build their nests under the solar panels in between the wires, incorporating them into the nest putting the wires at risk of being damaged, and pulled out of the connections.
Nests built under the solar array can cause hot spots on panels overtime this will damage the panel causing the system to fail.
All nests and eggs are removed under the Wild Bird general licence which we have obtained from Natural England.

The ApcUK Solar Panel Proofing Process

We only use high quality European prime mesh on all our installs
The pigeon droppings and any debris are first disinfected then transferred from the gutter into two, doubled up polythene heavy duty bags.
A cable tie is used to seal the bags and removed from your home. The gutter is then cleaned through.
Under Solar Panels:
All nests and pigeons are removed from under the solar panels.
Proofing to keep Pigeons from going under the solar panel array:
Using the solar panel bird exclusion system developed by Area Pest Control.
Galvanised metal steel clips are installed on to the panel, this process is carried out on outer panel within the array.
Galvanised welded wire steel mesh is then cut to suit the height of your panels.
The galvanised steel wire restraints are then used to attach the mesh to the clips, creating a physical barrier to stop the pigeons going back under the panels.
